First Michael and now Vibe 2009 seems to be a sad year for music!!!

"On behalf the VIBE CONTENT staff (the best in this business), it is with great sadness, and with heads held high, that we leave the building today. We were assigning and editing a Michael Jackson tribute issue when we got the news. It’s a tragic week in overall, but as the doors of VIBE Media Group close, on the eve of the magazine’s sixteenth anniversary, it’s a sad day for music, for hip hop in particular, and for the millions of readers and users who have loved and who continue to love the VIBE brand. We thank you, we have served you with joy, pride and excellence, and we will miss you.

Michael Joseph Jackson (August 29, 1958 – June 25, 2009)was an American recording artist and entertainer. The seventh child of the Jackson family, he debuted on the professional music scene at the age of 11 as a member of The Jackson 5 and began a solo career in 1971 while still a member of the group. Referred to as the "King of Pop" in subsequent years, his 1982 Thriller is the world's best-selling record of all time and four other solo studio albums are also among the world's best-selling records: Off the Wall (1979), Bad (1987), Dangerous (1991) and HIStory (1995).

In the early 1980s, he became a dominant figure in popular music and the first African-American entertainer to amass a strong crossover following on MTV. The popularity of his music videos airing on MTV, such as "Beat It", "Billie Jean" and Thriller—credited for transforming the music video into an art form and a promotional tool—helped bring the relatively new channel to fame. Videos such as "Black or White" and "Scream" made Jackson an enduring staple on MTV in the 1990s. With stage performances and music videos, Jackson popularized a number of physically complicated dance techniques, such as the robot and the moonwalk. His distinctive musical sound and vocal style influenced many hip hop, pop and contemporary R&B artists.

One of the few artists to have been inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame twice, his other achievements include multiple Guinness World Records—including one for "Most Successful Entertainer of All Time"—13 Grammy Awards, 13 number one singles in his solo career—more than any other male artist in the Hot 100 era. Jackson's highly publicized personal life, coupled with his successful career, made him a part of popular culture for almost four decades. He died unexpectedly at 2:26 pm^[4] on June 25, 2009, aged 50. The specific cause of death has yet to be determined.

Chris Brown has pleaded guilty!!

R'n'B star Chris Brown has pleaded guilty to assaulting former girlfriend Rihanna and will be sentenced to 180 days of community work for the attack.




Brown will be put on probation for five years

Lawyers for Brown, who had earlier pleaded not guilty to assault, announced the plea deal as the singer appeared in Los Angeles Superior Court for a preliminary hearing into the case.
Brown, 20, will escape a jail sentence for his attack on Umbrella singer Rihanna on February 8, which happened as the couple drove home from a Grammy Awards party.


The incident left Rihanna with cuts and bruises on her face, forcing her to cancel a performance at the Grammys later that day.
Brown later said he was "sorry and saddened" by the events and that he was seeking the counselling of his pastor, family and friends.
Affidavits filed in the case alleged Brown slammed Rihanna's head against a car window before repeatedly punching and biting her.

Under the plea deal, Brown will be placed on probation for five years and must perform 180 days of "labour-oriented" community work in his home state of Virginia, prosecutors said. He will be formally sentenced in August.

Rihanna appeared in court with her lawyer after Brown had left the packed courtroom.

The Roots will debut their new single!!

The Roots will debut the title track from their upcoming album, "How I Got Over," tonight (June 24) on "Late Night With Jimmy Fallon," where they currently serve as the house band. The group shot a video for the track earlier this month; the clip will be released in early July.

"How I Got Over" is a prime slice of the Roots' socially conscious hip-hop, as Black Thought raps, "Livin' with the police right behind ya / It's always more than a slight reminder / we're livin' in a war zone like Rwanda."

As for "How I Got Over" the album, the Def Jam project was originally due this summer but has since been bumped to Oct. 20. Among the tracks expected to make the cut are "Walk Alone," the vintage R&B-leaning "Make a Move," "The Day" featuring Icelandic vocalist Patty Crash and a cover of Frank Zappa's instrumental classic "Peaches en Regalia."

"How I Got Over" is also expected to include a version of Cody Chesnutt's "Serve This Royalty;" the singer-songwriter rose to fame in 2002 when the Roots re-recorded his song "The Seed" for their album "Phrenology."

Perez vs. Will.I.Am

Perez Hilton's weekend ended: The gossip blogger ended up punched in the face and bleeding outside a Toronto club around 3 a.m., after calling singer Will.I.Am a "gay... fag." So much for a new, nicer Hilton.

There's already been an arrested in connection with the incident.
Toronto police have charged 36-year-old American Molina Liborio with assault in the case. This sounds like Will.I.Am's manager, known as "Polo Molina," who Hilton had fingered as the man who punched him and who had previously turned himself in to Toronto cops.

The attack occurred shortly after Will.I.Am repeatedly demanded Hilton stop writing about him and Hilton, by his own account, called him "gay" and a "faggot" to get under his skin.

Rihanna a god or bad neighbor?

Rihanna is reportedly being taken to court over a parking war she's having with her California neighbor.
UCLA design and media art scholar Christian Moeller, who lives next door to Rihanna's rented Los Angeles abode, says the singer fails to exercise neightborly courtesy by allowing her visitors to park on his lawn.

He has filed a lawsuit against the singer with claims of trespassing in connection with the peculiar parking arrangement, says TMZ.

At press time Rihanna had yet to issue any comment on her neighbor's suit, however, she is scheduled to appear in court over another matter.

As previously reported by Yo! Raps, the District Attorney ordered the singer's presence at Chris Brown's preliminary hearing for assault charges later this month.

They are both scheduled to appear in court on June 22.

St. Louis Rapper J-Kwon Returns With Second Album This Year



J-KwonAfter stepping into the indie music scene with his Hood Hop 2 digital project in February, J-Kwon is set to unleash an entire collection of new music in late July called Hood Hop 2.5.

The upcoming project offers 13 original tracks from the St. Louis dynamo, as he offers a remix contest for budding producers and prepares a new online reality show in conjunction with the release.

His new single is called "Louie Bounce (I Smacked Nikki)," an ode to his native St. Louis. Other standout tracks on the upcoming album include "Tipsy 09," an update of J-Kwon's 2004 smash hit "Tipsy," and "Do The Stevie", another dance favorite.

At just 23-years-old, J-Kwon enjoyed formidable success while still in high school as a part of Jermaine Dupri's reign at Arista. His rough upbringing gave way to edgy lyrics that became hit songs like "Tipsy," "You & Me" and "Hood Hop" in 2004, and his collaboration with Bow Wow and Jermaine Dupri "Fresh Azimiz" in 2005.

A hiatus from the hectic pace of the industry gave J-Kwon fresh insight for his future.

"I am happy to be giving my longtime fans music that excites me," said J-Kwon of his new music. "Hood Hop 2.5 is another chapter of my growth as an artist, and I look forward to giving the my generation what they want. From party songs to lyrics about life -- I can do it all. I have a long career ahead of me, and I hope the fans are ready to take this journey with me."

The album is produced mostly by J Skillz da Bandman, who also shows up on one track as a guest, while other beatmakers include c and Beatdown Boyz.

Hood Hop 2.5 is due on July 28.
